Start learning music with Fluto & Melò

INTRODUCTION

This is an educational path to learn the musical language and develop musical intelligence through the practice of the recorder or, alternatively, the melodica.

It arises from the experience I gained in many years of teaching in primary school, where there is a need for a simple and progressive repertoire, as well as tools that help all the children of a class to learn the first basics of music, through lessons which are necessarily collective and, in most cases, are limited to a single hour per week.

Of course, children who are 7 or 8 years old can already start studying the recorder, whose practice will join the rhythmic and singing activities already started previously, thus allowing to develop the musicality, that is the ability to follow the rhythm, intone the notes and be expressive.

The tracks in the playlist, just a part of my repertoire for children, are sorted by difficulty and can be used both in the classroom through the IWB and in the case of distance learning. It is a good practice for children to copy the score on a music sheet with staves, to get used to recognizing the position of the notes on the staff and the duration values. Then it is necessary to analyze together the essential elements and those that are encountered for the first time. Then move on to a first reading of the piece (solfeggio), and then introduce some exercises of instrumental technique preparatory to the piece, for example the alternation of two notes.

The first song, entitled Just 3, is very easy to play, because, as the name suggests, it contains only 3 notes: B, A and G, the simplest to play on a recorder. In the piece there are just 2 duration values: quarter notes (one pulse) and half notes (two pulses). The cursor of the "animated" score indicates the notes to be played and, on the left, the fingering of the three notes and their position on the staff is shown. Finally you can learn the holes to be filled in the flute, and the keys to press on the melodica, thanks to the help of two nice characters: Fluto and Melò.

Uncle Jack's Blues (Il Blues dello zio Jack) is also composed of only three notes: A, B and C of the following octave and one of its purposes is to teach you to alternate the notes B and C on the recorder. In the score there are also the notes shown in letters, which however disappear in the second repetition, thus forcing the performer to read them on the staff. Also in this track there are only two values of duration: half note and quarter note. Finally the symbols of "D.S. al Coda" are introduced, in addition to the graphic repeat , already seen in the first song.
